​The Trace of Rotation: Dana Hakim

Familiar everyday commodities are often in use in Hakim’s art. In the last few years she is working with meshes and the notion of the Moire’ pattern. She uses a type of perforated sheet of metal with a very simple design of round holes. When slightly rotating two layers of mesh, one on top of the other, a new and much more intricate pattern comes up. Dana Hakim plays with different mesh contractions, shape, transparency and color composition that enhances the effect of the Moire. Hakim finds interest in those diverse prisms of view and perception. Unveiling things that are laying beneath the surface is an eye-opening experience she strives to achieve.
